Chapter 17: Hawaii and the Pacific Island

Venice Beach

The island of Hawaii has a tropical climate, but the huge difference in weather between the island makes it difficult to compare to California. California's climate split into two, from high precipitation in the north to low precipitation in the south. Hawaii on the other hand varies in only 20km. Both these states are affected by the Pacific ocean with temperate temperatures because of the water. Rain shadow are also found on both states.

Surfer in California

California, much like Hawaii, contains a subculture of surfers. Many adopts the surfing lifestyle developing their own lingo many most likely borrowed from Hawaiian natives. The beaches in California and moderate temperature serves as a great spot for tourist activities. Many surfing lesson can be found in the beaches of California.

Capter 16: Pacific Northwest

Craft Beer in California

Coastal lines of California extend up into Oregon and Washington. Land clashes with the Pacific Ocean to the north of California is called the Pacific Northwest. Like California, Oregon and Washington primary sector include commercial fishing and wine vineyard. Oregon's ecosystem is notably alike to northern California considering they are next to each other. Wine industry both flourish in Oregon and Northern California. Microbreweries are also abundant in Washington. Craft beers can also be found in California. Microbreweries such as Stone IPA can be found in California and are doing well since the demand for craft beer has risen.

Computer company has also settled into the Pacific Northwest, similar to Silicon Valley in California. Since all three state lie along the Pacific Ocean, ports and commerce thrive in these areas. Trade between Canada, US, and Mexico intermingle between these three states. However, unlike California the climate in the Pacific Northwest has much more precipitation allowing for more timber and agriculture.
