Chapter 11: Great Plain

The Great Plain resides in the middle of the United States. Home of many agriculture with wheat as the major crop. The large amount of wheat grown in the Great Plain allowed the United States to be one of the world's leading exporters for it. Like many farms in California, agriculture in the Great Plains relies heavily on irrigation. Ogallala Aquifer runs through the Great Plains supplying water to many farmlands. Many farms in California rely heavily on these water systems built by the state and federal government. Water reserve from northern region of the west coast is the lifeblood and California's agriculture.






Off-Shore Oil Rig
The Great Plain is also reliant on oil. Much of the growth in the Great Plain was due to the oil industry. The importance has been evident in sport teams like the Tulsa Drillers or Oklahoma Drillers. Like the Great Plain California also drill for oil. From the oil field in Bakerfields to the off-shore drilling rigs in the Pacific Ocean, California also places a great importance on oil and natural gas. NHL team, Oilers, moved from Oklahoma to California.
